Automatic CBR Test Machine

The Automatic CBR (California Bearing Ratio) Test Machine is designed for the laboratory determination of the CBR value of highway sub-base and subgrade materials, as well as for evaluating the strength of cohesive soils with a maximum particle size of 19 mm (3/4”).

The machine consists of a robust, compact two-column load frame with an adjustable upper crosshead, driven by a precision electromechanical ram with a maximum capacity of 50 kN. It is equipped with an advanced data acquisition and processing system for accurate measurement and real-time display of load and penetration values.

The system applies load to the penetration piston at a constant, controlled rate, enabling precise measurement of applied force and piston penetration at predefined intervals. This design ensures full compliance with BS, EN, ASTM, and AASHTO standards, allowing multiple test standards to be performed on the same machine without modification.

For ease of operation, rapid platen positioning is provided via front-panel up/down control buttons, allowing quick and safe adjustment to the test position.

The Automatic CBR Test Machine is supplied complete with:

50 kN high-accuracy load cell

Standard penetration piston

Linear potentiometric displacement transducer (25 mm travel, 0.001 mm resolution)
